My name is Michaël Vandekerckhove. I am studying construction at the Odisee university college in Aalst (Belguim). During the third year we got the opportunity to go on an intership abroad for four months. I have decided to take this apportunity and learn as much as possible. I ended up at Besix NL via the university college, specifically at the A6 Almere project. The project consists of a highway that is widened from 2x2 lanes to 4x2 lanes. My intership period is devided into two parts: works manager and works prepper. From Februari 5 to April 13 I am working as works manager and from April 16 to June 15 as works prepper. As works manager 'outside' the employees are managed, the workshop is organized, the subcontractors coordinated and I ensure that everything is ready on time. While the work preparation is more about planning, cost control and follow-up of the works.
